I spent the last couple of days working on sprite optimization. I ended up buying TexturePacker for about $40 so that I could make sprite sheets quickly and easily. I feel that it was definitely worth the investment since I want my game to be as optimized as possible.

It's been a lot longer than I intended, but I am still making progress. To ensure that I am in fact learning in the best way, I am watching some Lynda videos and reading various articles as well. In one of the videos I watched, I realized that there was more I needed to do to optimize my sprites.
I have happy news to report, though I apologize for taking so long to write. I have been able to successfully change all 3D physics back to 2D and successfully created a playable build on the iPad!
I've actually had a very busy few days so while I did work on game stuff, it wasn't enough to create a full post about. I have created my final creature that came with my sprites, the raptor and created a sprint and a bite mechanic. I set the sprint mechanic up in my code so that I can add the run animations to the other creatures. I also ordered the Dinosaur World sprites, but since it's with PayPal, I'm still waiting to receive the sprites. Keep that in mind if your purchasing anything with PayPal.
Well I finally figured out how to stop the camera from shaking during a collision and it was the silliest, easiest overlooked thing. Instead of Update, I placed the code in FixedUpdate and bam! It's working.
It has been a lot longer than usual since my update. It has also been a much busier week than usual for me. I did work on Metamorphosaurus throughout the week, however I had a few issues that I ran into, so I had chosen not to blog until I could provide a solution. Some non issues that I did accomplish were that a bar will now be brought up while the player is in the cold area. This allows the player to see the damage applied while in the cold area. Once I got that working, it was time to move back on to the Dilophosaurus and it's spit mechanic.
I am so very excited for today's update. I got quite a bit done. First of all, I now have my thermal regulation mechanic working. I found an asset for a simple health bar that was free and works amazingly. I set up the health bar as an absorption bar that allowed me to create the new mechanic.
It's been 2 days since I updated last, but I am back and ready. Today I am working on the Dimetrodon's thermal regulation mechanic. The first step was to decide what object would be used to create the mechanic. I decided that since I'm working on the Museum area, I'd create a fire pit.
I found out how to make my game work. Unfortunately, I did the exact thing I was doing for 2D, but had to use 3D physics. I don't want to say for sure, but it may be a Unity Bug. I set up a simple scene and using the 2D physics, just a rigidbody2D, and a 2D collider attached to the player and the ground, the player fell through. However after switching to 3D, it worked. I can't quite explain it. And now Unity has crashed twice on me. I'm not sure why.
To begin my work today, I found a dinosaur skeleton vector at Pixabay. Then I went into Pixlr and split the image into different sprites. Then I opened that in Spriter and created some animations. This was my very first time using Spriter and it was so easy to use. I think a made a cool animation. Even if it doesn't make my final cut when I get ready to publish the game, I'm proud of it.
